in the snowy regions of the middle mountains, including the area around the Brocken in the Harz Mountains, were border post with skis used. Experienced skiers were because a lot more mobile than foot. The special clothing made necessary, at least the service and special shoes for ski pants. This officer was wearing khaki colored stretch ski pants and ski boots from the zivielen area. Perhaps shoes were mainly used in private hands, as the skiers also operated outside of his service to the winter sports. In severe cold or snow often the gray-brown quilted jacket was pulled over, it is shown here and described elsewhere.
